What exactly is the setup of the world? I mean, I get that there are nation-states like Tambelon and the Flutterpony Village, but other than that we have no idea what the fuck the setting really IS for Ponyland. And don’t go all “Star Wars Episode 1” on me; even Episode 4 established SOME kind of preexisting government and ruling bodies. Near as I can tell, the ponies don’t even have a societal structure in their home town, let alone across Ponyland. The one ruling figure we see - Baby Moondancer - may well have just been cosplaying, so we don’t have any real leadership. Even freaking He-Man had ruling powers!

They do this with G4 as well, but they have some overarching elements that affect how future developments occur.

It was the 80s. That’s really the best explanation for any problem with the G1 series. It was made in the 80s.

As far as I could tell, it was a sparsely populated region operating under a pre-feudal system - as in whoever has the biggest stick in the general area gets to make the rules. Only there weren’t very many sticks, so everyone kinda did their own thing.

One of the more irksome complaints people had about the first of the prequels was how there was too much in the way of political intrigue and world-building, and thus was obtuse. And for as much as Episode 1 did indeed suck, that thinking always irritated me, as world-building is important to PREVENT shit like Episodes 1 and 2.

Also, I will be dead in the cold hard ground for fifty years before I have anyone try to explain to me that Babylon 5 is inferior to Star Wars Episode 4 BY DEFAULT. /raving fanwankery

Thread Starter - The evil council continuation

For what I can tell there wasn’t enough ponies to build a ponies society, they can fit all in only one castle/house that can’t be called a hometown. They seem to live in a little spot of civilisation into the wild far away from anything else civilized (but supply with electricity anyway). There was few non-ponies civilisation around, mouse peoples, the horse’s village where knight shade came from and, the more numerous, flutter ponies’ village but really the ponies had no society unless the dream valley’s ones featured in the series are some kind of lost colony from a bigger unseen entity.
