We kind of need to come up with a better “big boob pun” tag for Dinky Hooves, because I’ve tagged a few pics with them as ‘Dinky Loaves’, though it doesn’t really work as well as Derpy’s. Also, are there any characters out there who lack the “big boob pun” tags by any chance?

Also, there’s something else I feel that we should probably discuss. We haven’t gotten any just yet, but it’s probably inevitable that we’ll get Rule 63 versions of a Adagio Dazzle, Aria Blaze, and Sonata Dusk. So, we should probably pick names for them.

I haven’t picked last names but for Adagio and Sonata, I was thinking we could go with “Rondo” and “Ballad” for first names.

Dropping by to ask about the removal of certain tags designating an abnormally high number of upvotes or downvotes, extremely cute images, and the like. I realize these tags are subjective but they remain highly useful, and since their opposite (tags such as “this was supposed to be a utopia”, “oh god why”, and so on) still exist, it doesn’t seem consistent to remove the good ones and leave the bad.

Also unsure about whether removing subjectivity from the tags is a good thing at all, since it makes them less useful due to the inability to search for anything that might be tagged subjectively as well as removing some of the fun of how tags are used here. I’m all for making the system more specific, but not to the point of turning this place into a pony image Wikipedia where anything that’s not pure fact gets deleted.

If you want to search for a certain number of upvotes you can do this now automatically with upvotes.gt:200. No tags required anymore.

And the various cute/adorable tags, there just much to many that implies these, so why not allies them all together? Because I don’t no why anybody needs to search hnnnnnng or dawwwwww/daaaaaaaw, and then in various variations too. (We don’t use sound effects on other tags, can’t remember to see a uwwwww or ihhhhhhe or jikeeees tag.) It is just unnecessary. It is semantic cluster fuck. Plus they are very subjective too.

But is it really necessary to get rid of them all? It would be understandable if the excess amount of tags were causing some sort of strain on the servers, but if that isn’t the case, then there really isn’t anything to worry about. Sure, some of the tags are highly subjective, and plenty of people see others as being redundant and stupid, but if the existence of these tags isn’t causing any sort of problems with the site’s normal operation, then I’d be willing to overlook a little bit of clutter in the tags.

@Mad Black
It’s safe to say “hnnng”, “dawww”, and any variations on those don’t need to be there mainly because they’re almost impossible to search for- you have to remember the exact number of letters in order to do it. “cute”, “adorable as fuck”, and “heart attack”, however, work well to designate varying magnitudes. Just basic cuteness can be given the “cute” tag, larger amounts of it are given “adorable as fuck”, and the ones with the highest amount are given “heart attack”. This system may be hard to write solid rules for, but honestly it seems to work just fine from user input alone so far.

I think the most upvoted and downvoted images on the site should still get their own unique tags so we can keep track of them. It is something of an accomplishment, after all. “upvotes galore”, “downvotes galore”, and “wall of faves” are also good to have around just for practical purposes. Whether any other images deserve upvote/downvote or favorite-related tags, I’m not certain. Maybe specific tags for the highest and lowest-scoring images at each safety rating?

Already went over the subjective thing. If we only wanted the site to be objective then we might as well get rid of about 75% of the existing tags, as well as the whole upvote/downvote system.

Another thing to remember, re:subjectivity of cuteness is, that we as a species seem to tend to find certain things cute more frequently than others.(Seems legit)
Cuteness is in the eye of the beholder, sure, but the cuteness preferences of a majority of people are similar enough that most people would consider the same things cute most of the time.

But yeah, tags like hnng/hnnnng or daw/daawwww are unnecessary, redundant and awkward – cute/adorable and possibly cute/adorable as [some clean, non-cussy, preferably horse punny, replacement for "fuck"] should be quite adequate.

The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

There is a own thread for this topic now.
@Silent_Witness
It is very unclear and unmanageable just to look at a image with so many tags that mean the same.
For the strain thing, there you really got to ask an admin, most likly clover. He should know the answer to that.

@Background Pony #D839
Well the heart attack one is a bit misleading. If i ever would search for that I would expect to see ponies having a heart attack, and not extremely cute images that metaphorically are supposed to cause them.

Might I suggest to make tags more manageable if we could put a blog:XXX or tumblr:XXX before a certain blog related tag, and a comic:title to fancomics like we do now with OC:name. I think that would be very usefull and make it more clear. And when I’m at it, the same would be very great for episode:title from the show. Even if we have the spoiler:S0E00 tags as well. It would be very confined, because it would catch the eye rather quickly. And it would be good for organisation for the download page which tags should be shown.

Also recommending we create a specific tag to be added to any unaltered screenshots and gifs from the actual show.

I think we should change the tags for Fleur-De-Lis to “Fleur Dis Lee.” As much as the fans may hate it, it is her official name as bestowed upon her by Hasbro. If nothing else, it should at least alias to it.
Background Pony #2CB7
@Silent_Witness
I say we should alias the latter to the former, which is much more common. Unless you also want to change Doctor Whooves to “Dr. Hooves” and Derpy Hooves to “Muffin”.

Derpy can stay Derpy since she no longer has an official name from Hasbro and its what third-party merchandise calls her anyway. And I thought Dr. Hooves’s official name was Time-Turner (not that it matters). I was just saying that since these characters do have official names now, the tags should be changed to reflect that.
Background Pony #2CB7
@Silent_Witness
This reminds me of a suggestion I had in the other thread. For character-specific tags, we should probably have down standardized alias shortcuts so people won’t have to learn every individual tag. Something like “busty applejack” aliases to [applerack](/tags/applerack) and “genderbent twilight sparkle” aliases to @dusk shine.
Background Pony #2CB7
@Silent_Witness
His official name started as “Time Turner”, but later merch seems to have retconned “Time Turner” to his species, i.e. the ponies of Gallopfrey.
Solarium

I want to create a new tag, but I’m not sure what to call it.

You see, I always wanted to filter animated images that are just pieces from episodes and other videos. Those are under animated, but this tag include animated fanarts that I don’t want to miss. Any ideas?
