I was about to say that the currently iconic and ubiquitous fog was born from tech limitations–used it to hide the low draw distance.
But you don’t need to actually implement the fog the same way the original did, with texture pop-in and stuff. Nah mang, unless you’re really strapped for resources I don’t see why you gotta do it the old way.

Fog is still there, though aesthetically it is less than the way original looked.
REMAKE Dev team took creative liberty to make the fog thick, but seem more gentle and foggy and to look less like an aggressive moving wall actively trying to block your view.
Granted the latter is what made the fog in SH2 completely unnatural, unnerving, menacing and foreboding, and in the REMAKE the fog is at worst a slight inconvenience and at best, actually pretty to look at.
