Amazing race I can’t believe the “left” oppositional party that absorbed the ghouls of the last Bush administration didn’t win
marinus18

@AaronMk
Yeah, I never though that was a good idea. They were hoping it would get more republicans on their side but they stayed loyal to Trump. The only thing it did was alienate a lot of people on the left.

Sexual liberity is important too. If you can’t control your own body what can you control? For a long time church doctrine controlled these things but when that started to weaken conservatives turned to the state to enforce norms by law.

Okay, I have some preliminary hypotheses for the outcome that we saw today:
  1. Harris refused to break from Biden on Gaza until the last second. Though there’s a chance that Biden’s emotional and ideological attachment to Israel and his handling of the issue would have doomed her on that front regardless.
  2. Harris’s campaign got taken over by the millionaire Beltway consultants that control Democratic leadership, and they pushed her to pivot right on key issues that depressed turnout of the Democratic base. The play they made for Never Trump Republicans did NOT work, and may have backfired.
  3. Harris had only three months to get a campaign going, which is admirable. Imagine what she could have done with twelve though, especially since Donald has been in campaign mode since he first left office.
  4. Elon and Zuck transformed their social media platforms into festering propaganda mills that have sent many more young people in particular down far-right rabbitholes.
  5. Legacy media completely memoryholed Trump’s first term and the George Floyd Summer. Additionally, they spent most of Biden’s first term downplaying or staying silent on any accomplishments he racked up, blamed him for “inflation,” and tried their hardest to wishcast a recession into being through the power of belief.
  6. Finally, legacy media did lots of free campaigning on Trump’s behalf this year by putting a disproportionate amount of criticism and scrutiny on Harris while ignoring all of Trump’s most outrageous antics and reframing his wildest campaign promises to make them seem more competent than they actually are. Every misstep by Biden or Harris was front page above the fold for days while Trump’s would get mentioned toward the back, as were consequences of his policies. I mean ffs one of our “papers of record” presented his plan to deport 20 million people as a solution to housing costs. 5 and 6 allowed Trump to handily win low information normie voters whose only thought is “the economy is bad but Trump will fix it. The news said so.”
marinus18

I think a big mistake was also to focus so heavily on truth. You can’t counter a story with truth, you can only counter a story with an opposing story.
marinus18

@BlitztheDragon
I always find it interesting that many seem so drawn towards the more convoluted capitalism explanations. Rather than the much more simple truth that house prices are high cause capitalists want that. They want to keep house prices high cause they control them and they don’t want to lose money.

I think the fact that there hasn’t been any mass outbreak of protests or riots in cities in response to the results is telling. People just don’t have the energy anymore.

There is also just good old fashioned racism/sexism at play too
Seen a lot of people posting they wouldn’t vote for Kamala just because she’s black/a woman
marinus18

@BlitztheDragon
Yeah, capitalist papers won’t say that we live in a capitalist economy. That’s kinda obvious as it’s against their interests to do so.
They want to pretend the government is responsible for every economic failure in the capitalist system.

Yeah, I haven’t seen much anger. Just hopelessness, fear and surrender.

These are the kind of posts we need.
I found this pretty good video on what we should be doing right now:
More Unionizing is always a good call.
And if people are depressed, that’s fine for now but eventually we need to at least try and do something.
marinus18

@CaptainXtra
Though unionization will never be as powerful as it once was. What made unions so powerful was the bonds between the workers created by working side by side in factories for long hours. People no longer work side by side all day so those social bonds are not as strong.
Capitalist propaganda is also far more widespread and certain aspects of it have become assimilated as truth like the blamelessness of corporations for their decisions. Unions are openly anti-capitalist and that’s no longer allowed in the eyes of many. People uniting against their overlords is something the establishment has always resisted.

Honestly I don’t see how 1-2-3 can matter in the face of 4-5-6.
There’s absolutely been a legacy media, social media and modern media takeover from billionaires, and ultimately they were able to completely twist what the average American sees to the point of disenfranchisement.
It’s not that MAGA grew, but that it was fed red meat and kept active while all stories about the successes of the Biden administration and their campaign for the presidency were highly suppressed.
Corporatism won. Late-stage capitalism won.

Though I don’t think this will reverse the decline of Christianity nor of white domination. But now it seems just corporatism alone is enough to win elections.

And now there’s no getting rid of it. I’d post the link to the TV Tropes page Evil Only Has to Win Once, because it’s now happened in real life beyond a doubt, but it’d be deleted for blind linking.
