Don't blame me, I voted for the other guy. (Politics General)

@BlueYoshi
Was that the one where Trump had peaceful protestors attacked?
Hey guys you know how Pennsylvania is a critical state in this election? How Harris wins if she takes it but she still has other options if she loses it? Meanwhile Trump absolutely must win Pennsylvania or else he loses, period?
Well it turns out Pennsylvania has over 600k Puerto Rican residents making up 8% of the population. And the “joke” from last night’s Nazi rally is still front page news across social media?
NGL, it’ll be funniest thing that hack has ever said if it turns out Trump losing the election could be traced back to him.
I would think they would keep the matter of Peurto Rico on the down low because it is a US imperial territory still. Which really shouldn’t be a thing anymore, they should either make it a state or let it become fully independent.
While Trump and JD Vance were currently busy putting on the 4th Reich the other day, Tim Walz decided to spend his time streaming with AOC on Twitch and playing Crazy Taxi on the Dreamcast
A party that contains a racist, sexual abuser felon and an “ALLEGED” couch fucker, vs the party that has a dude who likes football and wants to jam out to The Offspring while playing video games
Truly this is the hardest choice for the average voter to pick
Tim Walz also did a great job in his state. Increasing wages, making it business friendly by protecting it from megacorp abuse, giving free school lunch to everyone, increasing school funding, making sure the rich pay their due and so on. It’s notable that despite an increase in welfare and education spending state surplus actually went up due to increased taxes on corporations and better enforcement as well as reduction in state subsidies.

Google, Meta, Snapchat, and Tik Tok to face lawsuits
A federal judge has ruled the lawsuits can go forward, which is pretty much eliminating their Section 230 protection. I imagine this will have further reaching ramifications.
I don’t think it will. When it comes to the powerful megacorps anything against them will only go as far as surface level. That is unless it enables the tech giants to push their own interests in some way. I do think it’s good that the tech giants are being held to some level of accountability. I don’t think it will go very far but it’s still a good move.
When it comes to privacy there isn’t much to lose as they all already sell off data whenever and to whoever they want. It’s the legislation I would like to see the most, that tech companies have to be transparent to who they sell people’s data to.

Obligatory disclaimer that polls are not votes, have limited predictive value - especially recently - and the only poll that matters in the end is the one we actually vote in.
BUT, while swing state polls continue to show a tight race, a couple polls slipping out of “flyover” country are piquing my idle curiosity.
First in Kansas. The Docking Institute released a poll finding Trump ahead 48.2% to 43.2% for Harris. Similarly, a poll of Nebraska’s 1st Congressional District found Trump up 48% to 43% for Harris. The latter poll found Harris leading in the 2nd Congressional District by 53% to 41%.
Now, it’s entirely possible, maybe likely that these are outlier polls. Regardless, I might tune in to see how things shake down in what has been written off as “Trump Country,” because if these numbers end up being even remotely accurate to the outcome, Donnie is in deep shit.

I do hope we do find better ways around the shield of “Racist!”
Racism exists not via individuals and it never really has, it’s a systemic thing. How many individuals are “racist” only really matters insofar as they will vote in politicians wanting to do things that disadvantage other races. However conservatives have become good at deflecting people pointing out systemic racism by implying that those people are claiming everyone is “racist”. Living in a racist system doesn’t mean you yourself are individually racist.
They have pushed the notion of colorblindness which is that we should just pretend like systemic racism doesn’t exist and that anyone who brings it up is to be dismissed as a “racist”.
This also happened when the socialist party here tried to ring alarm bells for how migrants were retreating into isolated communities and that they should be distributed better. They were dismissed as “racists” and now the fascist parties are trying to use the concentrated poverty of the migrant places to stir up xenophobia.
It’s a result of the colorblind mentality. That any mention of things regarding race or migrants is “racist” and not looking at rather they have any serious merit.

I may not be understanding what you are trying to say.
Are you saying that, for example, Tony Hinchcliffe is not racist just because of what he said? But that instead he’s just a part of a racist system?
If so, if I am understanding you correctly, what is the ‘racist system’ that Tony Hinchcliffe is a part of, that makes him not responsible for his words?
And do you not think that Tony Hinchcliffe, and the people responsible for giving him that platform, bear any responsibility for the racist things that he said?

@Ciaran
You kind of answered your own question. The people responsible for giving him a platform also have responsibility. We shouldn’t focus solely on Tony alone but also on the system that perpetuates him.
But more so I’m against the notion of colorblindness. That just pretending racism doesn’t exist and not talking about it, it will go away. The example I just used was how there was a problem with migrant settlement but nobody was allowed to say it cause it was “racist” to do so. It were mainly left leaning groups cause migrants were usually poor and having poor foreign people in concentrated communities always ends badly cause it will compound. Poverty leads to crime and a community in a foreign country leads to extreme fear and prejudice both ways. So migrants should be distributed around the country to help them integrate. I do think you should be allowed to make observations like that.
Using the colorblind approach and just pretending those problems don’t exist has let to a lot of trouble.
I also used another example to make it more clear what I meant with the sham of the “Carbon footprint” from BP. It’s trying to shame people on an individual level to make them not criticize systems. With racism this is especially effective cause if you make it that anyone who mentions race is “racist” then you can shut it up very effectively. I have been called “racist” many times as I do mention problems related to it.

A deep dive into that Kansas survey is kind of fascinating.
Could indicate that Kansas isn’t quite as red as it appears, if it’s representative of the greater electorate there.

Some unhinged Republican ad using the old “Democrats are the party of the KKK” shtick - along with some graphic shit - just aired during today’s The View broadcast.
To ABC’s credit, they aired a disclaimer saying they were required to air it by federal law (equal time rule, perhaps?) and that it didn’t represent the views of the network.

I absolutely think that “focusing on Tony” first is good. You can’t fix the system in the near time, and ignoring the abhorrent things that some individual does because ‘the system is really to blame’ is a horrific take.
the “Carbon footprint” from BP
What the hell does that have to do with Tony Hinchcliffe?
Do you believe we SHOULD NOT criticize what Hinchcliffe said, without first fixing carbon footprints?

Tony is just a mouthpiece. If he is discredit as a “racist” he will just be replaced.

I meant it to indicate in what way I mean what I say. We shouldn’t let individuals distract from the bigger issue. Things like ID laws and the whitewashing of history is the dangerous things we should be focusing on.
You are missing the point of what I said about the Carbon footprints entirely. It’s completely irrelevant, it’s a sham that BP came up with to deflect from environmental regulations. That instead of them being careful to not spill oil everyone else should put their washing machines lower.

Activote has given up on hiding the fact that they’re trying to influence the averages.
They’re pumping out poll after poll with <500 respondents and very little metadata.
They’re basically flooding the polling space right now.

Given how turnout looks poised to surpass 2020 it’s pretty much a given there will be a big polling error and it won’t be as close as people and the media think it will be. That’s gonna mark the third time in a row polls fucked up (including 2020 and 2022; no matter what Nate Silver and Nate Cohn say they still fucked up in 2022).
The question is where that error will go.

Sure feels like you’re trying to distract from the individuals and candidates, by constantly pointing at the “bigger issue”. Sometimes the trees are a problem that are worthy of discussing and dealing with, regardless of the problems of the forest.
It’s completely irrelevant
Yes. It is. So why do you keep bringing it up? It has nothing to do with Tony Hinchcliffe or what the organizers of Trump’s rally did.
Seems like you’re incapable of talking about one issue, without making everyone also bow to the global implications and pay homage to your personal identity politics.

Yeah because just reacting to racist assholes won’t go anywhere and can even be a barrier to solutions. If you can’t talk about race related issues at all then it become impossible to solve them.

I keep bringing it up cause it’s an alternative example to make it clear. It’s obscuring of a bigger issue with “personal responsibility”.
I also have no idea what “personal identity politics” you are referring to. Considering I was constantly arguing against those.
And yeah if I don’t think an issue has bigger implications I usually just ignore it.

Let me try something more direct then:
Let people talk about specific topics, like what Tony Hinchcliffe did, without derailing the conversation insisting that they can’t talk about that one thing without taking into consideration your opinions about entirely unrelated topics like Carbon Footprints or the socioeconomic environment that gave rise to Tony Hinchcliffe.
You really are starting to look like someone intentionally trying to derail conversations here.

Andy Kroll, reporter for ProPublica, points out that if you want you mail-in ballot to reach your local BoE by election day then NOW is the day to mail it. Going off 2020 delivery times, it might take the full week to be tabulated on election day.
Of course 2020 had the double whammy of being beset by 2 separate plagues, that of Covid and a Trump presidency, both of which were very intentionally (and by the latter’s own confession) trying to sabotage out mail system to delay and obstruct the vote-by-mail process.
“We’re going to remove people that the judge has ordered deported.” (Of course, immigration officers do not limit themselves during raids to only those people a judge has already ordered deported, and those people aren’t going to wind up in front of a judge unless they’re first arrested and detained, per Homan’s orders.) “Is there a way to carry out mass deportations without separating families?” Vega asked. “Of course there is,” Homan said. “Families can be deported together.”
A reminder that estimates says about 12 million undocumented immigrants are in the country. A mass deportation of that many - on top of removing that many people from America’s workforce - would cost the nation 10s if not 100s of billions.
But Trump says he plans to deport up to 21 million people.
We are unironically looking at this scenario.

The second time though it wasn’t really proven. Someone had brought a gun to the golf course while Trump was there but to my knowledge it was never proven why.
