The problem with Shapiro’s VP candidacy at this point is that, to a certain extent having a pro-Israel candidate isn’t a bad idea, it wins over a lot of pro-Israel moderates who may be turned off by progressive anti-Israel folk and wins over Jewish people who feel disaffected by perceived anti semitism in the Democratic Party
They do not have the capabilities to establish their own homeland and make it successful even with the aid of Israel and the United States
The more I read this, the more racist it sounds
Reverse the situation and imagine if a Democratic politician wrote an op-ed about how Israelis are violent monsters who get off on killing Arabs, they would be disavowed by Biden in a press release and every other Dem would call on them to resign

That’s the thing. Sucking up to Russia, China, Cuba, and Venezuela - the first two of which abandoned socialism DECADES ago - has nothing to do with these popular domestic programs they support. Their response to the invasion of Ukraine was to blame NATO for “provoking” Russia with NATO “imperialism,” and demand that the US leave it. Zero mention of the Kremlin’s actions or rhetoric at all.

I guess the key is how well they can sell a change of heart… probably not very, if he’s been outspokenly pro-Israel of late.
He’s also said that he believes “Benjamin Netanyahu is one of the worst leaders of all time”. It is possible to be for the country and simultaneously against the actions of the people in charge of it.

Yeah, pretty much all the VP candidates have the same general stance on it. Shapiro just seems to get a disproportionate amount of anger for some reason.

The Guardian here goes over how the far-right has moved their organizing online, enabled and nurtured by friendly social media companies such as Musk’s Twitter.
