We’re sending and selling weapons to an ally, and believe me Russia’s aggression very much affects us. Rising commodity prices are a grand example of that.

As for Taiwan, what is he or any other president to do? China is a heavily armed nuclear power and holder of 60% of the world’s debt. Not much we can do aside from finger wag and sanction.

From a purely pragmatic standpoint this deal is brilliant.

Russia breaks itself on the “shield of Europe”, our European allies ween themselves off Russia gas (and buy boatloads of our LPG), two of the last remaining major European holdouts join NATO, current NATO members are pushed to actually pay their fair share into the alliances stockpile, and Russia’s dream of becoming a world economic power dies under the weight of unified sanctions.

And all we’ve had to do is what America does best.

Make weapons.
