Once I was kind of like you are now Latecomer. I was an Obama fan of all things for instance. He was going to fix the system. Instead he just made the system larger and more effective. The wars continued etc etc. As time goes by some things change and a lot don’t. Seldom does one get what one deserves, instead something random happens and turns everything upside down in a day. Then they decided unilaterally that “government is the problem” and undid all the safety nets so what they didn’t have to pay in taxes anymore could be reinvested in getting even more filthy rich without those dirty peons getting a slice of it.
Inequalities have exploded over the past half-century and this generation is already having it worse than their parents. So if by “we” you mean “the top earners”, then you’re right.

Not my impression here but I can’t say how it is in France. We have not undone the safety nets or systems, they have been expanded. (Perhaps too much.) I see the increasing inequality in earnings here as well though.

‘Oh hey that must’ve put a dent in his wallet’ you might think. No, no it didn’t. Bezos is worth over $200 billion - that’s billion with a B - and almost $300 billion. So I did some math and that means 500M to him is about roughly 0.02% of his wealth. Not 2%, 1/5 of 1% of his wealth.
Some more math tells me that for a middle class family, spending 1/5 of 1% of their wealth on something is about $100, or basically an average microwave oven. Spending 1/5 of 1% when you work minimum wage pre-tax, mind you is the equivalent of…$24. More or less half a tank of gas at today’s prices. The richest man in the world - and a man who’s company no joke pays 0 dollars in taxes - spends the poorest man’s equivalent of half a tank of gas when he buys a yacht so big it comes with its own “support yacht”.
This is insanity. But when you combine that news with the piece of news from the same week about another Amazon worker being found dead in their warehouse it goes from just “insanity” to “Capitalism”.

No corporate exec should be paid more than 100 times the lowest wage of their employees. No one is that valuable and invariably they hoard their fortune instead of using it for any purpose constructive to society.
I don’t like supporting Amazon, but sometimes it’s my best choice and that’s the fault of their competitors for not offering a better option.

Media calls it conflict. Some with more brain cells considered it as much conflict as it was when germany was forcefully relocating the jews back then.
