Sweet F.A.
So, I’m editing together my review of High School Musical 3: Senior Year, and I got to a part that got me wondering.
There’s so much societal pressure to go to prom when you’re in high school, at least where I live (honestly, I don’t know if prom is even a thing in countries outside of the US), but between the tickets, the tux/dress, and external things like renting a limo or going somewhere for food before the night begins, it’s all so incredibly expensive. When I went to my senior prom back in 2015, I was several hundred dollars short after it was all done, and it wasn’t the night of fun that I’d always heard it would be.
I have to wonder, is a lot of the pressure to go to prom invented by clothing companies and others as a means of making money?
I don’t want to sound like a conspiracy theorist or anything, but knowing our capitalistic society, it wouldn’t surprise me. Seriously, someone get Adam Ruins Everything on this, because I really want to know!
