You can’t transfer digimon from your past game to the new game, though. That’s a big difference.

The difference is that Pokemon is a much more unified series which the big selling point of has always been collecting them all, and for its entire history except the transition from Gen 2 to 3, you’ve always been able to transfer your Pokemon forward to the new games so you can keep playing with them.
 
They’re taking away a major, major feature for very weak reasons. The idea that they can’t do it because of figuring out the balancing is frankly ridiculous. They already HAVE the models and animations of all the old Pokemon, plus their movesets from the previous generation. The whole point of them making these models which were so much higher-poly than necessary was to future-proof the series and let them just port ‘em all over to the next one. And now they’re not doing it.
 
Of course there’s always the possibility that they actually don’t have the time and resources to do it because Game Freak is ludicrously underfunded considering Pokemon is such a HUGE global franchise, but that would still be as a result of Nintendo being stingy rather than an actually excusable reason to take so many Pokemon out of the game.

Besides not every Pokemon can be ported to the switch. Which is what confuses me the most is how the hell can people do that?

You realize that every mon can be, if Pokemon Home is any indication, which will be on the Switch. Seriously, the 3DS could handle 1,000+ pokemon if they had that many at the time, so the Switch has no excuse not to. And it’s not about how good or bad a pokemon is, it’s that it’s a series about collecting and memories with your teams, which is why you’re able to transfer your teams up every generation.

I meant Variety in new Pokemon, I at least want SnSh to be a Pokemon b/w 2 game where you have tons of new mons and still have some old ones

Oh, now that you said it… Yeah, they just removed the entire point if the franchise.

You can be upset by this decision (and it’s definitely a dumb decision) and still be excited and looking forward to the game. These two things are not mutually exclusive.

I love that even the Japanese fans are pissed about it and are in a uproar over it, since they’re apparently usually quiet about this stuff.

But you could have transfer mons not in the regional pokedex in B2/W2, unlike SnS. That’s the main problem.

Ok, for starters I’m okay with this change. Not saying it’s a good thing or at least a bad thing but it at least gives Game Freak a chance to make new Pokemon. The hired artist is the same fuckin’ guy who did Pokemon designs for Pokemon Black/White and he made a generation filled with brand new Pokemon like it was gen 1 so I’m just curious to see how many will be accomplished by release

On another note, I’ve gotten some trading done today, like got a female Snorlax that’s in a heavyball for US and a super sized Pumpkaboo with Insomnia for a X run, and the latter even helped a guy who was burned out.

The thing is tho, that’s no excuse or reason for any of this, also Black/White did not remove older Pokemon from coding, and yet Sw/Sh already proves it has some older Pokemon in the dex, so they can’t even be arsed to go all the way.

I think you’re missing the point. They’re taking away the ability to transfer your old teams up without adding anything. Every game other than B/W has old mons and new ones mixed in, and even in B/W you could transfer the ones not in the regional dex to the game in the post-game.

And people like to bash on B/W for doing that, yet it never inhibited anything, but are quick to jump to the defensive here.

This may piss Lighting a bit, but since they had made LGPE, it’s likely that all the mons from gen 1 and their variants will be available in SnS.

I wasn’t too keen into catching all Pokemon to begin with so I personally don’t give a fuck about this change and wish people would shit up about it. Besides not everyone can afford to be able to get and do some of this stuff like transferring Pokemon
