Scott Walker - Jackie, Black Sheep Boy, Next, The Girls From The Streets and Plastic Palace People
From the late American-British singer-songwriter’s second solo album, “Scott 2” (1968)
Born as Noel Scott Engel in Hamilton, Ohio, Scott Walker first found fame as part of the Pop rock group The Walker Brothers, who enjoyed fame in the UK in the 1960s while based in England. As a solo artist, Scott Walker’s output spanned a very eclectic rainbow of styles, ranging from arty baroque pop (like this album) with sly and risqué subject matter to Broadway, Country, Industrial rock and even Drone metal (in 2014, he collaborated with the American Drone metal band Sunn O)))), on the album “Soused”).
A resident of England since his success with the Walker Brothers in the mid 60s, he passed away in 2019, leaving a legacy that impacted many other musical chameleons, including David Bowie.
Fun fact: Angela Morley (Born as Walter Stott in Leeds), a key conductor and arranger on this and other early Scott Walker albums, was one of the first openly transgender women in Britain.
