Working on a reader response essay. Got the essay done alongside the header and did the correct MLA Citation. About to submit it. While closing out the other programs, the laptop freezes and shuts down.

THANKFULLY, Microsoft Word managed to have a backup of the document and I managed to get it all back. I didn’t have to retype it all thank god, but I was fucking pissed when the computer froze.

Nowadays most writing applications auto-save also. It’s significantly more difficult to lose large amounts of work done unless one is being careless or very unfortunate.

I save at pretty much literally any change I make.

My computer never froze once when I did last assignments and essays on it, so I didn’t have a reason to.

The point still stands, SAVE YOUR DAMN SHIT, everyone who does anything on a computer. There is literally no excuse to not saving, it takes very little time and saying “well I never had issue before” is a bad one. Guess who lost literally days of work in the past thanks to not saving because I never had issues? Meeee. What did I start doing after that? SAVING.

One time I was playing a Pokemon game (I forgot which one), I caught a Pokemon I had been trying to find for a while, then I accidentally forgot to save when turning it off later and had to find it all over again.

I just don’t like the idea of people garnering attention for a thing that’s 90% user error. I’ve lost entire hard drives worth of stuff before for things not in my control.
 
My point is, I’m not trying to be mean or shame anyone, but I just don’t like the mentality of refusing to do something useful and effortless because it’s deemed as ‘not necessary’. I used to do that and it bit me in the ass numerous times. I got sick of that happening, so I started saving obsessively, and I’ve had few problems since.
 
Just cause you can’t always control something fully doesn’t mean you can’t help make it better anyway.

Don’t hate me, I’m just trying to help in my own way. I never had anyone feel sorry for me when I actually lost files I spent all day on so I’m a tad bit grumpy is all.

I’m also not dismissing that you had problems like this at all and you were trying to help like you said. It’s that people work differently and it depends on the situation where someone doesn’t do something because it’s “not necessary”. Since we are talking about this situation in particular, then yes it is good to save every so often. I know I’ll try to in the future.

Just save your work, people, everyone, avoid problems by tackling them directly.
 
That doesn’t solve the issue if your device melts in front of you, but…
