Aw man I know what you mean, and German shepherds are such loyal, regal dogs too.

We’re not sure. Maybe 4 months or so ago he began to be slightly less active than his usual self, but more or less the same happy dog. But then it started getting worse and he started not being able to quite jump up on the bed anymore, so I built him some stairs and we arranged to get him into the vet.
Seemed to be doing alright after this for a few weeks. (Just watch second half if interested.)
That was almost 2 months ago.
The vet gave him a steroid treatment too, and said he probably had degenerative disc disease.
But the last couple weeks or so were bad. He got weaker and weaker and eventually couldn’t do anything but just lie down. When we brought him into the vet again yesterday we knew there might be nothing more she could do. She said she couldnt and also that there was probably something else very wrong with him but we couldn’t figure it out without $3,000+ MRI, and even then it’d probably require more money than that for surgery. So we didnt want him suffering anymore and had to make the decision to put him down. He was a good boy of almost 13 years. At least he had a good long life with no health issues before 3 or 4 months ago.
