Mind you, this comic was just a joke, not to be taken too seriously. For example, the Bonbon/Lyra actual confirmation came several years after this comic was drawn.
However the Scratchtavia thing came from the Slice of Life episode, where it was revealed that they lived in the same house and have “passionate music making session, where even Octavias clothing item got ripped off, that’s how intense it was”
Like I said, not actual confirmation, just a lighthearted shipping comic.
Btw. if you reply to this comment, I may not see it, as I don’t browse derpibooru anymore. That I saw this today was just a mighty huge coincidence

While i wouldn’t mind any official acknowledgment of a girlgirl ship, i do not think it would happen, but i DO wish they would at least leave it open or “hint”, something like…making Sunset say she wish she could spend more time with Twilight. To a young person or conservative it would seem just like a “i miss my friend deal” but to the fanbase it would be enough to make the shippers happy.
 
While true “love at first sight” was one of the problems, there were several more. One of the bigger ones, that SunFlash also would have, is that Flash is STILL just the token love interest, nothing more nothing less. As people pointed out in the legend of everfree reviews, at least Gloriosas brother had some importance beside being twilights love interest, but Flash? ALL he does is trying to get laid. You can’t be a more 2 dimensional character if you try. This is why the first moment Flash haters started to sway was in the friendship games short where he was making a banner with some other guys, because at that point he finally showed a side of his that wasn’t all about “Does this girl like me?” and “How can i make this girl like me?”

I somehow doubt any lesbian ship is going to get any official acknowledgment other than Lyrabon, which is between two mostly-insignificant characters and was basically treated as a joke both times it got any focus (“Slice of Life” and “All’s Fair in Love and Friendship Games”). And I get the feeling even that much was considered to be pushing the envelope. Even if they wanted a gay or lesbian couple on the show, I don’t wink they’d risk the kind of backslash it might get in less tolerant countries where the show also airs. Not that that Americans ourselves are necessarily as tolerant as some might like to think either, but that’s a whole other kettle of fish.

Sunflash does at least avoid the whole “love at first sight” thing, which was the one big problem with Flashlight other than Flash himself being poorly received. And Flash isn’t looking as bad to most people now that Timber’s around.
 
That said, if he was sending any signals, I think it’s pretty clear she didn’t notice.

Yeah, hasbro has sunk this ship by themselves now, this here was drawn before Legend of Everfree after all. Though they haven’t done much for the SunTwi ship in return and instead hinted at a possible SunFlash, so it’s back where we started

I don’t think it’s so inevitable, even if I were to assume that you’re right about how it would be received, because the show hasn’t had much romance in it in the first place, and anything thus far that didn’t involve a preexisting couple has tended to become a train wreck

No corporation will ever put support and praise before profit. Even if it’s a massive surge of good will and a small drop in earnings, I can’t imagine that being acceptable to them.
 
The Starbucks cups thing didn’t get very far because they were literally complaining about nothing.
 
Plus, the show airs in quite few other countries IIRC, and I’d have to check to be sure, but it’s entirely possible some of them are significantly less tolerant of homosexuality than the US and Canada.
 
I mean, I wish I could just agree with you, and I’d love it if you were proven right, but to me, it just feels right now like you’re more optimistic than I’m capable of being.

Hasbro’s not scared of “puritans”,those groups and individuals that would oppose “lesbian romance” couldn’t do anything significant to hurt the show no matter how hard they try. Any boycott they do would get as far as that Starbucks Christmas cup debacle did. Hasbro would probaly get a ton of support and praise from all sorts of avenues if they shoehorned any homosexual activty in the show.

Besides, nothing is known about Human Sunset yet; that she even exists is an assumption. It’s entirely possible she’d be an enemy, as her life took a different path, and it’s possible, even likely, that she never got that hand held out to her, never found herself at the crossroads and chose to walk a different path, never learned to care about anyone other than herself.
 
And you and I both know that there will never be any overt lesbian romances in FiM or EqG, for fear that the puritans might boycott. “Plausible deniability” is the word of the day. Well, two words. Whatever.
