You do not want to touch your eardrums, much less stick anything into them.  
Due to unimportant reasons I have to clean the inside of my ear (which normal people really shouldn’t risk nor bother with), and I’m a bit clumsy by nature; It really doesn’t take more than a slight nudge against the ear-drum to give you a taste of blood in your mouth (well, metal, but it’s the same thing) and a fairly sharp pain.  
And I don’t even want to think about how it feels if someone startles me and I jab it in there.  
So, yeah, if you don’t need to clean, don’t mess with your inner ear <.<  
Besides, pretty sure it doesn’t help normal people; You’re just making your body compensate for it.

This is why they have a disclaimer on q-tip boxes now.
