I think the rectangular bit on the backside is susposed to represent the screw. Granted, that bit doesn’t look like something that belongs on either calipers or a wrench. It’s a pity that, at a remove of eight years, we can’t just ask the artist.

I have both monkey wrenches and calipers in my tool box (actually in different boxes, calipers are delicate). It’s pretty clear to me that Trixie has a monkey wrench, mostly because it’s drawn with a handle, which calipers don’t typically have.
