Ah, no, they are not sirens, the sirens are from greek mythology.  
Also, the Lorelei, while the legend takes place just a few km river upwards, is from an unrelated legend.  
These three are based on the “Rhein Töchter” (Rhine daughters), the three mermaids who guard the gold of the Nibelungen after Hagen von Tronje dumps the hoard in the river.
 
We chose them as the mascots, since the event takes place in Bonn/Germany, which is where part of the Nibelungen legend takes place (namely the dragon Fafnir lived in the mountains nearby, the same mountains where the dwarf Alberich and the Nibelungen people used to live.
 
The other idea we had was to ponify Ludwig van Beethoven, who is also a child of the town, but his face is already all over the town and we wanted to be a tad bit more original ;)
 
Also, seaponies are awesome :P

Say, if those are supposed to be Lorelei-like things, shouldn’t they be sirens?
