“Lavender! What happened to your eye?” Rarity stared in shock at her daughter’s black eye as the same trotted in through the door, home from school.
The purple dracony gave a exasperated sigh as she put down her books, then paused for a moment as she searched for words.
“Oh, we were just playing catch and one of the other ponies accidentally punched me in the face when I pounced her”, she lied, avoiding Rarity’s gaze.
Her mother’s eyes hardened.
“Lavender”, she said. “Look at me.”
Rarity’s daughter looked up.
“You know I love you. You’re the most precious gemstone I could ever own and there isn’t much that we, as a family, couldn’t handle. But if you decide to insult me by lying to my face, I’d rather you didn’t speak to me at all.”
Lavender looked at her mother’s face, a mix of shock, hurt and anger mirroring her own emotions. She turned away and walked towards her room.
“Ok, mom”, she said.

Might be a ‘bleedthrough’ side-effect of all that Element tapping as a group: NMM, re-stoning & un-stoning Discord, recharging the Harmony Tree, Rainbow (de)Powering Tirek…or maybe people learn stuff from their friends now & again. Read it as thou wilt.
… For some reason, my brain is saying how this is heavy Rarijack evidence, since Rarity’s tapping into AJ’s element.
Failures-and especially refusals-to communicate seem to be a universal fact of teen life. Tough & soft love alike are either mistimed, too much so, or not nearly enough.

Might have been some bunch of ‘purebred’ uni/earthie/peggie noble brats. Blueblood might’ve wised up offscreen, but I somehow doubt he was the only (or even worst) stuck-up twit out there.
As for the ‘dragon toughness’ angle, eyes that big seem like a legit weak point no matter how thick-skinned one may be overall…and it is her only visible injury.
Between Rarity’s poor choice of words, and Lavender’s refusal to tell her the truth, this is a really damn depressing scenario.

Well, Twilight’s wasn’t going to be an alicorn in Faust original idea, so anything can happen now.
Doesn’t stop fanfics and fanartists from saying she will fly on her own soon.
Whoops! I just looked up the EqD article, where Lauren disclosed some random facts, but I was mistaken about that one. Scootaloo was supposed to get into fights because of her inability to fly, not her lack of a cutie mark.

If Lauren had more creative control, we would definitely see scenarios like this. In fact, one of the scrapped ideas she had when writing Scootaloo’s character was that she would regularly get in trouble for fighting, due to being teased for not having a cutie mark.

Can technically be both. Depends on whether or not you consider Celestia to be Spike’s adoptive mother instead of Twilight.
