And what if, um, Scorpan was Spike’s father? I certainly wouldn’t mind that, as I personally believe that would be an interesting development. And it’s not like Tirek and Scorpan were related in G1, so I suppose the writers could play around with these sort of things if they feel like it.

So they are both in on this whole ‘let’s raise an enlightened dragon’ deal, hmm?  

The headcanon here is that when he and Tirek were not warring with everyone in their way, Scorpan secretly spent many of his days breeding and training the indigenous creatures. He eventually had enough knowledge on dragon biology, psychology, and physiology to know that Spike came from an innocuous, yet powerful, species of dragons. For that reason, he left it with a race as peaceful as the ponies of Equestria in hopes that it would one day live to see its full potential.

I bet Scorpan shows up in Season 5, and he and Spike become bros.

My theory is that scorpan found spike’s egg in his homeland but gave the egg to celestia so it would be safe

He does betray Tirek and join the ponies, but it’s implied he didn’t like working for Tirek in the first place.

My theory is that Scorpan possibly discovered Spike as an egg after some disaster(possibly Tirek wiping out Spike’s family) so he gives the egg to Celestia for safe keeping. Or something.
