True too much angst too little comedy, makes a really poor slice of life kind of show. Well Alien Nation isn’t too bad, but it’s not enough comedy. And it tries to be a few things more than just a cop buddy show, with aliens in it.

As for a crossover between Patlabor and YuA, well there’s a few attempts at trying to make the two into a crossover. On Fanfiction.net, I’ve checked them out in the past, not sure if they’re still there or not.

Well hope you consider trying it out, and I may or may not have the chance to test that out myself. I’ll send you a PM if I ever do.

Patlabor still may be my favorite anime series ever (Just the series though, the movies got kinda dumb and really lost the tone and point. Well okay, the first movie is pretty cool, it can stay) YuA isn’t far behind. Probably for much the same reasons I like MLP actually they’re “slice of life” without being entirely vapid and able to get more ‘serious’ now and again. I also like that they’re ‘cop shows’ that work without needing to wallow in horrible angst and/or glorify the the worst mankind has to offer. Watching them leaves you (well me anyway) with the feeling that bad stuff might happen at times, but thanks to good people keeping such things in check it, it’ll most often work out in the end.

Actually I’m convinced there’s some alternate reality where the two shows are totally in the same universe. So while Miyuki and Natsumi are squaring off with a baseball themed costumed vigilante across town SV2 is trying to capture a sea monster created by a mad scientist with their giant police robots. (These were real episodes, neither was treated seriously in the slightest, and both of them are reasons you should watch these shows)

Damn it now I’m thinking about a crossover with such a verse, honestly a talking pony would be only marginally more strange then some of the crap already in the show…

The Obligatory Onsen Episode was one of the funniest freakin’ episodes of anything ever; the first time we watched it we were all literally rolling around on the floor and weeping like babies.

OH MAN OH MAN OH MAN, have you seen the photos of the new live action(!) Patlabor movie? “Awesome” doesn’t do it justice.

You know what else is a good anime? Patlabor, the guys who made Ghost in the Shell also made this mecha police force which was slice of life. But still pretty fun to watch, it was also seriously underrated.
