The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

If bits in Ponyville are anything like the bits we used to use around here, it’s worth an eighth of a dollar, or a half of a quarter. Of course, if this is right, cherries are between ten and 25 cents, and apple pies go for, what, 50 cents? If I remember how much Applejack sold it for. So either cherries are highly prized and valuable, Applejack has poor business sense, or we’re over analysing their punny choice of currency in a cartoon.

Our current economic and value System is the result of centuries of capitalistic manipulation, artificial inflation ,and overly complex finical system. I doubt that it can in anyway relate or compare to far simpler monetary system of Equestria. While we cant detail the working of an entire nations supply and backing of a currency, the probable reason that the vaule of a bit seems so distorted is simply because the ponyville merchants probably use a barter and haggle system in which the price range is not usually stable due to the more limited supply of the stall venders who probably get their products from local farms or in deals with larger supplies rather than having hundreds of factories than cheaply produce a constant stream of goods that can allow a corporation to have a more stable price.

A cherry is not 1-2 bits, the price is simply whatever the vendor feels he can get for it (while remaining in a reasonable price range to maintain his reputation and customers of course)and if you can convince him to lower it for you out of haggling or charm like rarity and pinkie did then you get a lower price for that particular cheery, but if the vendor thinks he can get more out of you ,then he will inflate the price for as much as he can, especially if he knows you need it and it is his last cherry.why did the vendor let the other pony take the last cherry, maybe he wanted to wrap up so he could go to lunch, maybe he wanted a quick sale, maybe he was just bored and wanted to screw with an element of harmony.

I’ve always wondered about that. A cherry is worth 1-2 bits, and a mug of cider is worth a little more than that. Unless cherries are a very exotic fruit in Equestria (or the price of cider is inexplicably low), those two goods shouldn’t be even close to the same price.

I think it’s like a Yen. It would take more than 100 to make a dollar. So that means ponies’ economy is really poor, with very low inflation. I guess a monarchy would do that.
