She wasn’t expecting for death to give her another chance.
Turns out it finally happened, and Fleur not only became the famous model she is today in Canterlot, she also made a quite grim friend.

So you want the long version, huh? oook.
Princess Luna is in charge of bringing death as the opposite of her sister who represents life in my headcanon.
One day she perceived Fleur, a spoiled rich young mare without apparent talent and very unhappy with herself, was about to die and gave her an opportunity to live out of mere sympathy, maybe because she saw some spark of life still inside her, maybe because she reminded her of a young Celestia, who knows. So instead of taking her life right there she decided to give her a few days to recover. And well, De Lis failed… * Giggle *
Fleur struggled so much that Luna, entertained with the scene, asked her if she was ready to give up and die (hence pic) or being a little more grateful and continue. So Fleur accepted her challenge to really try to make a change in her life. At first Luna thought she’d be begging for it to finish within a week more or less, but amazed at her strong will and feeling she had deserved her respect, approached her more like a friend, less than a casual helper.
Fleur wasn’t grateful at her at this point as she felt truly tricked by death herself. But with time, this experience gave her a humility lesson. And as she became healthier, months passing by, the Princess invited her to explore her real beauty and encouraged her to become a model. Spoiled talentless mare who nobody cares about? no more.
But there’s a downside to the story, once she reached joy for life getting away from death, Luna suddenly stopped visiting her. It became like a faint, old dream, not that they weren’t friends anymore, but because Luna’s role was already done. You can’t pray death to save you, nobody would believe you that sort of thing. Maybe their encounter vanished from Fleur’s mind, or maybe she kept it a secret, but she certainly didn’t forget what she learned.
I wonder if the next time that beauty encounters her benefactor again will be the last in her life, as a final gift?
