It’s suggested in the Hearth’s Warming Eve play that Earth ponies settled the lowlands of Equestria, Unicorns settled the mountains, and Pegasi settled the clouds above them. Canterlot is a unicorn city perched on a mountain, Ponyville and Manehatten are down in the lowlands, and Cloudsdale is up in the sky.
I expect if we have more episodes set in mountain terrain we might see another Unicorn city, likewise Cloudsdale certainly isn’t the only cloud-city floating over Equestria.
Is it somehow cheaper to use mostly earth ponies for background characters? Is it really that hard to put random wings and horns in the Flash software?

Doubt it. It is heavily suggested in the show they are equal. (There is only one true minority ever established canonically, Alicorns. And only because they are four).
And even Canterlot and quite a lot Earth Ponies. Which furthers my theory that Earth Ponies are the majority of the Equestrian populance with pegasi and unicorns being in the minority.
Las Pegasus is more then likely a cloud city.

Because, Christina Hendricks is hot.

Las Pegasus sounds like an Earth Pony town?
It’s just a fancy paperweight.
You mean Cloudsdale, not Lando Calrissian’s Bespin mining operation.
SPIKE, YOU’RE FIRED.
I just expected a New York analogue to be more diverse. Ponyville has to be an outlier.
Yep, don’t know how you wouldn’t thing it was an earth pony city…
Anyone that noticed that most, if not all, of the guest at Aunt and Uncle Orange where earth ponies, and they live in Manehattan
