It never was canon. Their relationship was the result of a plot device, not any true romantic feelings. Sparity isn’t canon either. There is no evidence to suggest that Rarity and Spike are in a relationship. The end of the episode only showed Rarity giving him some affection, not proclaiming she was in love with them while they ride off into the sunset.

SweetieMash is one of the few ships I actually like, next to Sparity and CheeriMac (because they’re actually canon).
 
I know SweetieMash isn’t canon, but I’d be lying if I said it isn’t cute.

Haha, finally after all the complaining and anticipation it’s finally out huh? Glad the animator finally got this off his chest. Great accomplishment if I do say so myself.
