@Red Anon minmaxing in puzzle games refers to minimum moves, maximum potential. (usually chains, though sometimes better rewards are given for more eliminated on the same turn/move, so that would be the more appropriate choice if the game engine follows that.) tabletop minmaxing is more about statpumping/maxing damage

oh, also they usually have the top score forever in bejeweled-esque games now that clowndicks brought it up, ala Candy Crush, Tetris Attack, Panel de Pon, etc. They’re like one rung below a bonafide puzzle-addict.

oh, I completely misread that then. :o
I heard the term ‘flouncer’ used a few times, but…that’s already a gay thing as well.
I know what you mean now, though. You mostly see those types with vast swathes of achievements on those ‘energy games’ that you can only play for x amount of time per day. They manage to beat the pay-to-play players just by maximising and planning their usage down to the last bit. I know there’s a tabletop term for that kind of obsessively-plotted minmaxing of one’s time but I haven’t been to /tg/ in a long time so I forget.

I wasn’t really looking for an analysis of gamers, just asking what the term would be for someone that plays a lot in there free time and get most things in a game done just from playing it, not to get everything done.

@Prof.NightJack Well, look on gaming forums sometimes, how many people bitch about older games being ‘unfair’ and they ‘can’t get everything.’ Modern games suck because they treat gaming like modern schools treat sports activities. There can never be any losers, no matter how unskilled/uncoordinated. Everything is moving towards time/plays/monetary unlocks. The best secret shit is no longer about skill or exploration, it’s all about just having the patience to suck and die long enough for the game to poop out your consolation prizes. This allows a lot of people to think they’re ‘pros’ because they ‘finally got everything in x’ when they really aren’t. And they dodge people telling them to play x PS1 or prior game by complaining about the graphics being too bad to look at. (actually I think most graphicswhores are just terrible players who found a good excuse people are willing to buy for not playing harder and more unforgiving games.)

I consider a game casual when picking up and finishing it is only a matter of time. As opposed to games where you have to develop skill or strategy to succeed.
