Heroes is better written than Murky? My god, that’s just wrong in every way. Especially the first few chapters of Heroes that the Noone knows is badly written because he wrote them originally as a one-shot and hasn’t had the time to revisit them. The thing that turns people off of heroes is the poor writing. The thing that keeps people going in Murky despite how horribly sluggish and disheartening it is (that aspect of course being the major and actually legitimate criticism everyone makes) is that Murky is very, very well written, better than the FOE.

Nothing you said makes the slightest bit of sense when applied to the fics you’re talking about. Of all the criticisms you could give Murky you chose one that is not only far from true but laughable, and of all the compliments you for Heroes you picked out one of its greater weaknesses and made it out to be something it was not.

You really messed up with that. All of that.

I call it as I see it. I slogged through the first four chapters of Murky, and they were very poorly written with no indication that things would improve. I give the author props for the attempt, but that doesn’t change the fact that he doesn’t know how to construct a good sentence with words that actually make sense. The original FO:E might be rough around the edges, but Murky is just flat-out bad.

Heroes is better-written, but structurally, it’s disjointed and aimless, and the characters are bland. It feels like it’s trying for some kind of grand overarching plot, but it doesn’t know what that plot is or how it’s going to get there. In the original FO:E, pretty much every piece of the story is there for a reason, and the reader knows there’s going to be some sort of payoff at the end when everything comes together. I don’t get that feeling from Heroes.

Heroes is mediocre at best. Murky is shit, or at least the first four chapters of it are.
