It’s been debated as to why those two foals spat so much magic and flew so well. I think that episode stated that babies show a lot of magic when they are growing. But I don’t think it addressed the span of time between foal hood and when they are a filly going to school learning things, like how to fly.
I think the show has tried to indirectly show the CMC as being late bloomers, so that way any child watching the show won’t feel bad if they are a late bloomer, and I think the shows producers are clinging to the CMC as blank flanks for that reason.
Honestly I’m not sure what’s going to happen to Scootaloo in the future, she could be a disabled pony, but I just wish that the show would declare it already! Take to the hospital so they can diagnose her with something, then they can have that lesson about “its okay to have a disability, there are still good things about you, like how Scootaloo can do great scooter tricks even though she can’t fly” lesson.
Ugh, I hate indecisiveness!
I don’t think it’s because she hasn’t been taught. A one-month-year-old pegasus born in a family of earth ponies was able to fly upside down. Scootaloo has stunted wing growth almost certainly.
I think she is had, indded, a disability, and she is simply in deny. It’s a common occurrence, so that would not be impossible. Also, possible aesop.
Yet to me last season’s episode where it showed Rainbow Dash lifting Scootaloo up in the air while her little wings fluttered real fast told me that no one taught her how to fly yet.
If Scootaloo had a disability that kept her from flying, you would think she would know? Imagine if you had a neighbor with a 6 year old kid who had a disability that was rather obvious, but the parents decided to not tell the kid until they were 11 years old?
The show has held back on so many details on Scootaloo that I think it has given the fans so much room to make up their own details, like that she is a homeless orphan… A robot.. Rainbow Dash’s illegitimate child… And etc.
PLEASE Season 4 just spell out all of Scootaloo’s details so we can move on!
Keeping a character stagnant because they’re cute as they are is quite needlessly restraining. It limits growth and development of the story and the character.
On the other hand, if the solution to “you can’t be a real pegasus if you can’t fly” is “well, then learn how to fly!” that sends a really bad message about disability. What they should really do with this episode is have Scootaloo learn she doesn’t have to be able to fly to still be a pegasus, that she doesn’t have to define herself by one physical ability. Some of the best character development happens when you take away from someone what they value most and see how they adapt.
At least either way I won’t be disappoint.
