Duck - SHITPOSTING INTENSIFIES

Uh, sure, not stating the “fact” that supposedly G4 unicorns and pegasi can fly and do magic way better than anyone Twilight’s age because of that half assed explanation Mr. Cake gave and you want to give more godmodding crap to the pair? Please.

Pegasi do not fly by virtue of their wings. Their flapping rate, their ability to stand on clouds without even flapping their wings, and the simple size of their wings relative to their bodies (they do not operate in the super-viscous scale of honeybees) makes it abundantly clear that their flight is 100% magic. The magic seems to manifest through the wings, as a unicorn’s does through the horn, but it’s the magic, not the wings, that provide the flight. It’s just as realistic to assume Pound got a burst of flight magic as that Pumpkin got a burst of unicorn magic.

And not for the first time.

Keep in mind that, in “Feeling Pinkie Keen”, Dizzy Twister and some unknown pegasus were not only keeping a truck and its load aloft, they were keeping it horizontal in complete disregard of its center of gravity. And in “Sonic Rainboom”, Rainbow Dash had no trouble not only carrying four other ponies, but changing everyone’s momentum so drastically that, if physics played the slightest role in that scene, everyone would be dead.

Pegasus magic is powerful and flexible stuff.

Two things about that scene in Baby Cakes:
1 - This is Pinkie Pie we’re talking about.
2 - There were no other witnesses.

If you recall, during that scene Pinkie Pie was freaking out because she had lost track of where the foals were. And we have seen that when Pinkie Pie gets put under stress, she tends to crack and start hallucinating. Thus, what we have here is a case of an unreliable narrator. Pound Cake and Pumpkin Cake probably could fly and have magic outbursts, but I’d say at least half of that scene was Pinkie Pie’s fevered imagination rather than reality.

Bottom line: Pinkie Pie got scared, and her fears exaggerated the scene all out of proportion. We were looking at it from Pinkie’s POV, so it seemed real to us just as it did to her.

If you’re going to be that technical about sense-making, then nothing in the show makes any sense whatsoever because it’s not set on Earth.

My point is, an infant carrying something over 5 times its weight and not being hindered or encumbered in any way, makes no sense. Especially considering what we’ve previously seen of ponies’ strength, and the force of gravity.

Moreso, Rainbow Dash’s explanation for it, “He’ll have those wings going in no time!”, does not explain it at all. Rarity’s explanation for an infant using advanced magic is somewhat valid despite being a cheap cop-out, but RD’s doesn’t explain how Pound Cake deliberately defies physics.

You keep going back to “it makes no sense” well hate to tell you but actually a fully grown pegasus makes little sense really, so who cares if it’s a baby, you going to go with that then non of them should be able to fly.

If one wants to analyzing thing like this in the show it’s okay, but when you all you are doing is “it makes no sense, it’s a cop-out” then you’re over analyzing and at hat point the MST3K mantra is what you need to remember.

Yes, and that “temporary bursts of magic” is just a cheap cop-out explanation. There’s no real problem with that, seeing as it’s magic, I just don’t like it.

The explanation for why Pound Cake was able to carry something over 5 times his weight and still fly very fast, completely unhindered, makes no sense and defies physics.

Some of us enjoy analysing this stuff, myself included. Hell, I loved It’s About Time just because of all the over-analysing discussions it spawned. It doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy the show on its own merits when I want to.
