To clarify my earlier point: most viewers in ’86 would find this funny and cute at best, silly and dumb at worst, but nothing controversial.

To be fair, Paradise is singing about Heart Throb finding a prince, while Heart Throb fantasizes about him. He’s just one of the fairy tale archetypes in this episode, not even ‘alive’ (though real enough to flirt later).

This isn’t the only time Heart Throb has appreciated humanoid romance, either, but Twilight is no better now, if you take EQ Girls as canon.

Xenophilia and interspecies stuff in fiction back then didn’t get as much negative attention either, there wasn’t a ‘furry’ taboo.
