I think it’s one part of people mocking a generic style for animation (like Hanna Barbera) and one part elaborate gate keeping.

i like the fact that “calarts” is supposed to have negative connotations despite the fact that lauren faust herself studied and graduated from there. alongside her husband, craig mccracken. and genndy tartakovsky. and a lot more.
if anything, im surprised there hasnt been an tirade on cartoon writing. i wanna know why every cartoon must succumb to seasonal rot. what university are they going to have their writing be so supposedly godawful?
Why isn’t it supposed to have negative connotations just because someone well known graduated from there? Most of the cartoons made by people you mentioned don’t have a great artstyle - we like them for stories if anything.

It just doesn’t hit the same if he doesn’t hate us.
Can we have one of those classic mid-series ‘abrupt turn into angsty grimdark lore’ moments later, so we can develop his character back to normal? I’m pretty sure most modern shows inevitably do that sort of thing these days
