The Mark of an End

Weewwwww Chapter 6! I have the thoughts as usual, but this time a lil different. I’ll split it between Opaline’s arc and Secrets of Starlight. Cool? Cool.

Spoilers ahead, so as always read at your own risk!

Opaline’s Arc

All in all, not bad! It was wrapped up pretty nicely-I was right in an old thought dump that she was using the Cutie Marks for power- though to what extent was yet to be seen. The last scene before her defeat was so beautiful- everyone banding together to give the heros strength to lock away the evil forces. Major MOTHER and Paper Mario vibes, but I did dig it! She kinda did a dumb in the end (in MYM anyway) but at least she’s out of the picture…for now.

Backpedaling a bit, the final confrontation between Opaline and Misty was so good! I was really glad that Misty finally got to speak her mind about their relationship and how much she’d grown from escaping it. It…fell on deaf ears obviously, but I’m sure it gave the closure that my girl desperately needed.

Backpedaling even more, we gotta talk about the dragons-especially you know who. Did I like them? Yeah! Could they have used a bit more individuality in their body shapes (yes I know there was a budget)? Absolutely. Spike did eventually grow on me as I continued to watch, but there has been plenty of backlash towards him in general so I want to note on his good parts a bit. He was fun! Definitely carried over the charm and wittiness of G4 Spike, which I can appreciate even under a new voice. Besides, if you were put to sleep for ages, I’d imagine parts of you would change without you realizing it, just saying! One question to bring up: how did Spike become the Dragon Lord? Obviously Ember must of passed the torch over to him after some period of time, but was it before Twi put them all to sleep or had that already been established before the plan was put into action? Who knows? I don’t

I keep bringing up this point, but pony dad Hitch for the winnn! I’m happy that he and Sparky get to stay together, for all the new and crazy adventures ahead. Speaking of…

Secrets of Starlight

Ooh, pretty new designs! I’m def going to have to draw a line up like I did with Bridlewoodstock.

Plot line, sorry. For a one episode special, also not bad! I loved Comet, Violet and all of the other Auroracorns, they were really fun to meet and learn about. Starlight Ridge is also a very pretty locale, though I do wish we could have seen a bit more beyond the…city? Village? Definitely gave more village vibes imo.

I initially first thought that Violet was going to pull a Starlight with her flute, but nope! We got an alluring quaffed leopard instead. And you know, It wouldn’t be the first time a feline crept its way into my heart. I love Allura’s design, and if her brother is anything like her, I’m going to love him too. Character wise she’s…typical villain, maybe a smidge smarter than Opaline by like half a point, but still a cool cat I thinks!

The final encounter was a little…lackluster imo? Don’t get me wrong it’s certainly different but I mean-in comparison to the rather charged end to Opaline’s arc, the villain got defeated by…snowballs. Not what I envisioned but ok

I did find it interesting that Comet wanted to tag along with the gang at the end, which will certainly bring about some interesting interactions between him and the townsfolk. Also god aren’t he and Izzy so cute! My heart, please I can’t take it. Crafty girl needs more goofy friends for sure.

I can’t believe that the year is almost over-and so also ends Make Your Mark-for now anyway. For any newcomers to the show I can say that it has been a fun ride and I do recommend it, but do get some snacks for Chapter 2 because it drags. There are the occasional audio layering and animation issues, the locales may not be as detailed or vibrant as they were in the movie and the story does run into some loopholes and continuity problems, but if you can get past all that it is a nice way to spend a weekend or two-if only for Misty. Misty is great and I love her ok bye
