The colored version as a portrait

This took a while because I had to add in more shading especially around the hair, otherwise it just looks so weird with how flat the colors were in the original lineart.

Turns out I still struggle massively with colors, I just don’t know how those other mlp artists do it, blending the colors into the linework so seamlessly and having it be this whole vibrant piece at the end.

I had to cheat here you know, I essentially used a “filter” by filling the cavas with a color at “Soft Light” setting so all the colors match a similar tone.

I think I should do more painting practices, problem is I suck at those, and I’m not sure how I can go about it on digital, my mindset when it comes to these is still stuck on “Lineart > Color > Shading”.

Which I’m pretty sure isn’t how painters go about it, those madmen just plop down colors on a rough sketch and somehow make it all work in the end.

In any case, something I did noticed from those other artists, is they don’t use strong linework, in fact I’m fairly certain it’s all airbrush?

It doesn’t make it easier for me mind you, but it’s nice to know and a good place to start.
