Despite the fact that Alden is an earth pony, he has always adored magic. All his life he envied unicorns and their varied magic (even though he had never seen unicorns or thier magic). Alden was furious when the new government banned magic in Equestria again. But then one day a wonderful chance appeared to touch magic and be always close to it - Sunny Starscout was recruiting a team of scientists. Alden quickly rose to senior staff and became Sunny’s right hoof. However, during this time he became so obsessed with magic that he converted his bracelet into a horn, implanted directly into his head. All for the sake of being like the great race.
