I don’t think OG genes matter. I’m highly certain it’s more than a abilities upgrade.

Well, four of the six known alicorns could be alive still since they were born as alicorns, but Twilight and Cadence, however, they weren’t born as alicorns, since the former was born a unicorn and the latter was born a pegasus and became alicorns later on.
The alicorns could be alive too. They’re known to live very long.
That means there were only two survivors from the G4 universe during the G5 era. I forgot that Spike managed to stay alive as well. Discord wasn’t the only one.
Spike is still alive, too.
