I take slight umbrage with your mention of Mr. Smith Goes To Washington, because people watching it today get the wrong ideas about how a filibuster works these days. It’s how it should be, but it’s not how it is currently.

The trailer told us a hell of a lot. It told us about the prom plot, who the villain is, what happens, etc. We don’t need to know much more.

And you were not talking about whether or not anything. You were talking about it definitely being something. Big difference. The ONLY thing I addressed was the allegation that it would be “dull.” How do you know it’s dull? Because high school + prom = automatically dull? The fun I had watching Boy Meets World and 10 Things I Hate About You (just two of more examples than I care to list) MUST have been a lie! Or… whether something is dull or not is all in the presentation. Mr. Smith Goes to Washington presented a senate filibuster in a compelling way, and most action films are a coin flip regarding whether they’re good or bad even given similar settings.
If you just said the setting or subject matter doesn’t interest you, I’d have no problem with that. But nope. You said it was objectively dull, as if you already had intimate detail of the movie’s contents.

I think you’re confused about who you’re addressing.
The comics are great. No fluff, no boring issues. Just fun, adventure, and charm.
Yup, I’d have loved to see monster fights with the elements of harmony in the main show. My point though was that they could have done something cool with a humanized mane 6 plot and gone the Buffy/Sailor Moon route, although from the looks of it it’s just a story about Twilight trying to get her crown back because Sunset Shimmer is a bitch, and that’ll pretty much be it.
The comics have a considerably higher quotient-per-issue for monster content than the show does, though. If it’s ponies vs. monsters that you want, they’ve got you covered.
That was the entire fucking point of this conversation. We were talking about whether or not there’d be more to EQG than dull high school drama and tired prom storylines. What, are you gonna castigate Richard Dawkins for talking about atheism in “The God Delusion”?
I like how you care so much about how nothing “amazing or life-threatening” is going to happen.
I also like how you responded so seriously to what was obviously a joke comment about robot alligators. As if it was so very important that you crush everyone’s hopes of robot alligators before it became widespread. After all, we MUST be informed about how important the prom is to the plot.
“Wake up, people! This movie isn’t going to be about fighting monsters or deep, compelling character drama or super spies! It’s about prom! Every conversation will lead to the prom! You think there’ll be jokes? Doesn’t matter; if anything funny happens, it won’t be until after the prom, because the only thing that matters is the prom! What happens at the prom? Who cares? IT’S A PROM!”
We don’t need a complete script. If anything amazing or life-threatening happened beforehand, no one would care about the prom. Since the prom is being heavily advertised as a major plot point, we can assume that nothing will happen until the end, when the prom’s over.

Yeah, I’d love seeing the Mane 6 fight mythological monsters. However, I’d like to see them do it in FiM, without the high school garbage or retarded humanizations.
