I always thought Trenderhoof were never supposed to be likeable. He is like Zephyr Breeze but even worse. Zephyr Breeze is at least self-aware in the end.

I can see why those kind of lines can make people uncomfortable or even mad at the character. I don’t know if I consider it racist, per say, but it’s certainly really condescending and possesses no finesse or grace, which makes him seem slightly air-headed. I can imagine Rarity saying similar lines, just a lot less clumsily and with more tact… which may explain why she and AJ can be friends.
I saw TH as more of an artistic idealist, head in the clouds and no idea of what real work or real life is like. He’s always going from event to event, always praised for the last thing he wrote or last presentation he made, he feels elevated, and as a result comes off as though he’s talking down to AJ. It’s a shallow life, so his attempt to flirt seems kinda hallow and obnoxious, as she’s down to earth and he can only trumpet out his butt XD
