Technically, Butterscotch is the rule 63 name created by the brony fandom and not the MLP writers themselves. It still checks out, but we don’t know wether or not the whole “Butterscotch” thing is a coincidence.

The foreshadowing began with Senor Butterscotch; let me explain.
  • Señor Butterscotch was created since Izzy wanted a unicorn friend.
  • Butterscotch is the name of Fluttershy’s Rule 63 counterpart.
  • Misty is closest to Fluttershy, even down to wearing a butterfly as her fake cutie mark.
  • In G4 there were six ponies and two of each race. In G5 there’s two pegasi, two earth ponies but only one unicorn.
If this isn’t foreshadowing then I don’t know what is.
