Pretty much.
I don’t know why almost everyone here seems to hate it when I draw my OCs. I never have any issue when it comes to drawing canon characters, but if I so much as draw any of my OCs, it gets bombarded with downvotes. But if its an image of my OCs drawn by different artists, I don’t run into that issue. So why all the disdain when I draw them? It almost discourages me from wanting to draw them at all knowing that a majority here just hate it when I do so. Guess I’ll stick to getting commissioned art of them, because heaven forbid I draw them myself…
I really wanna know why almost everyone on this site absolutely despises it when I draw my OCs. Why do you all take issue with it?

Also a note: the more popular artists on here (some of which I even follow 😇) will almost always get more upvotes. Great for them but sad for others (unless they become a popularity somehow too). 😞

That’s a good point :)

Usually certain canon characters will get more upvotes for me, but my OCs don’t ever get near 100. :( Probably because I have so many alicorns, but a lot of them represent wonderful people to me and appeared that way in my dreams past, making them extra special to me :)

Yeah, it’s cause most of it is explicit, and anything that’s explicit automatically gets a higher score.

That’s true too man :( that’s honestly the only major issue I have with this site as much as I love most of it D:

HUMANITY HAS GONE DOWNHILL. WE NEED EXPLICIT ART BANNED imo :( but that might overstep into Questionable and Suggestive stuff (I like and draw a lot of suggestive stuff but in a sane way; mostly selective on Questionable arts :3)

Am I not allowed to vent? Then again, you also did attack me a while back over a misunderstanding and never apologized for it. You think I enjoy complaining? No, I don’t. I’m simply venting my frustrations. That’s not against the law, is it?
Also, if people don’t like my art, then what to all the upvotes and favorites mean? Nothing? Guess my friends don’t really like my art then by your “logic”. You rely need to stop assuming you know me. You seem like someone who loves to make others feel inferior and make them quit doing what they love doing.
Also really ironic you say bronies are an “amazing community” when you really haven’t seen the stark decline in its attitude.

It’s so hard to believe that when it should be so obvious. You even spotted the two things that really changed the way people voted on things. You know that people don’t like your art compared to that of other artists. And you know that people prefer art of characters they know. So why are you posting this and asking why? YOU KNOW WHY. So what you’re really doing is complaining about this. But this isn’t something that will change and it’s not something that should change. Nothing is wrong with people reacting this way. You don’t have to like it. But you do need to accept it.

This is an amazing community of very supportive people, and artists who will help you with anything you want. You just need to want to get better. And whether you’re trying to do art purely for the sake of upvotes, or for good reasons, getting better at art seems to always be the solution. I’m surprised you needed someone to tell you this.

Especially since you’ve been complaining about this for like a year now… So maybe you don’t want to hear a solution at all. Maybe you just like to complain? I think you should think about this. Complaining will do nothing at all except make you look like you have a bad attitude. Telling people to just change their opinions to what you want them to be, makes you the bad guy.

Just end this charade that you’re confused and clueless and it’s unexplained. Because you get it. You noticed. You pointed it out. People don’t like your art. People don’t like unfamiliar characters. This is the way it is, and now you can use this information. Use it to get higher scoring art, or to be content with your OC art getting less votes than it feels like it should.

But regardless, you can always grow and improve on your style so that way you can get a better score if that’s what concerns you.

I can’t draw anything myself so i know I’m glad to have artists as friends, even if they aren’t incredible.

Very great advice. I know I shouldn’t let it bother me, but it still gets to me when Derpi takes issue with my OC art. My friends like them and it seems like DeviantArt and Twitter like them too, but apparently Derpibooru hates it when I draw them, and it’s hard to not feel a little upset when you see a majority hate what you made without any explanation.

Well that’s very reassuring. But in all seriousness, I feel like I have improved my art since I really started doing it more. It’s neat to compare what I made 5 years ago and what I made now. There’s still room for improvement, but it has gotten better over time

This site is crap. I’ve always had problems around here, but the biggest one was a son of a bitch who made me think he was my friend for more than a year and then he betrayed me. And, as if it wasn’t enough, the mods insist on defending him. Considering that my art was still pleasing him and posting my art here was just a favor I was doing for who likes sexy equestria girls, I decided to keep my new pics to myself only (I always draw what I want anyway).

It’s because those artists are all better than you. My art isn’t that good either. Have you tried taking time to learn and improve your art? If you do that you’ll get more upvotes. When I started putting more effort into my art almost a year ago, my art started getting more upvotes (my best images getting 80+ upvotes).

For ocs 15 upvotes dont count bad. I do requests most of the time and I dont got much ups, but I do them because I like to do them. My request drawings or ocs arent popular, but if you want more upvotes you have to draw the two princesses, Starlight Glimmer, Sunset Shimmer, maybe Lyra. More upvotes if they eat cookies or cakes. :D

If you base your opinion of your own art on something as abritrary as a number of thumbs up/down, you will never get to enjoy doing the art yourself.

You have the power to draw something, to put your beloved character into situations and add to their life, you can make scenes for roleplays or immortalize funny situations that happend with friends.

People here downvote anything that isn’t HD god tier because the standards are high, due to all the incredible artists here with time and gear to put remarkable stuff out.

So in short, please don’t get discouraged, you need to ignore these numbers, do this art for you !
You’ll make your friends laugh, you’ll improve, and you’ll make your OC happy.

Maybe I’m just not seeing it, but I’m not seeing that much negativity on your images with OC’s. I see that a lot of them have average positive scores, just with barely any comments at all. The most recent image of yours that has a negative score if I can take a guess has less to do that has an OC of yours and more that it’s riding off of a meme that’s starting to grow old combined with the art style. That’s just my guess with the score, it doesn’t reflect how I actually feel about it.
