Starswirl Glimmer is named after Starswirl the bearded, but has no relation to him.
Her special talent is glamour magic, such as applying glittery makeup.

Starswirl had dreams of opening up a beauty parlour in either Canterlot or Manehatten before she met Firelight, upon which she fell head-over-heels for him. She moved instead to live in his village, which he was very connected to. The two got married and started their life together, but when they tried for children they had no luck for a long time, so when little Starlight came along the two doted on and sheltered her, fussing over every scrape and racing to meet her every want and desire.

Starlight looked up to her mother a lot, she always wanted to be by her side and rejected making connections with other foals to instead spend time at her mothers heels, something her doting and over protecting parents didn’t correct. Starlight also models her hair a lot after her mother, though hers is more curly thanks to her father.

Unfortunately Starswirl passed away when Starlight was still a young filly, causing her father to dote on her even more and lead to Starlight clinging to the one and only friend she had made, Sunburst, hence the extra pain and abandoment issues she recieves when he has to leave to go to magic school.

Starlight always saw her mother as a kind mare who wanted things to be fair for everyone, but this leads into Starlight’s whole ‘Equality’ thing, her mother not having lived long enough to teach her the difference between fair and equal. A lot of Starlight’s personality she upheld in Our Town was based on hazy memories of her own mother, and while she did drop some of the act to become more of a genuine version of herself after becoming Twilight’s pupil, as seen by the change in her hairdo, she still has trouble reconciling the idealized vision of her mother with the real mare she didn’t get too know properly.
