Yeah … My old chair was similar, it never supported being leaned on in any way although it held on for long, but now it’s useless for anything except sitting on.

Yeah… Those chairs don’t have so great locking mechanisms. You try lift your legs up like that and put that much weight on the back rest that is exactly what is going to happen.
The locking gear will slip, the back rest will pop all the way back and you’ll follow the backrest, then with that center of gravity the chair will tip over.
