Every reason why earth ponies needed to be afraid of unicorns is validated by Sombra. Looks like Hitch’s question during the campfire scene was a loaded one. “Is it wise to give magic back to our enemies?” Izzy, Pipp and Zipp aren’t their enemies but would Sunny go through with it if they knew they were also giving it back to Sombra?
Good point. Sunny may have brought the magic back, but she’s also unleashed every magic-based villain in Equestria. That’s gonna be one big “What the Hell, Hero?” moment when the other ponies realize it.

I would have preferred new villains in G5. Evil unicorn wizard is kind of vanilla. Why not something like roving band of pegasus sky pirates that rob ponies? Or something more grounded like a greedy entrepreneurial earth pony that takes advantage of other ponies? Even if they were gonna do the evil unicorn wizard, I would’ve preferred a new character instead of reusing Sombra.
Well, even assuming that this is correct and he is actually going to return as a villain, it’s not like he’d have to be the only villain the new characters face. Besides, G4 (kind of) included a previous generation villain (two if you count the smooze), and still managed a bunch of new ones, so it’s not like having an old one locks them into mere repetition.

Meghan McCarthy compared him to Sauron. Turns out he’s more of a Ganondorf. Assuming he really is back for round four (or five if you count his fake defeat at the start of Season 9).
He’s also the easiest one the bring back. Not really much backstory (if you ignore the comics). Just an evil Unicorn with powerful magic who wants to rule as tyrant. Pretty easy to explain even to people who haven’t watched G4.

That was in the comics, the show still has him deceased.

Technically, even in the comics, The alternate Pony of Shadows was killed by Eris and Daybreaker, who I’m pretty sure are weaker than the Elements.
And for the record, Sombra’s magic manifested itself through crystal form which was stolen by the Decepticons. He was only revived by a discharge from Twilight’s magic. Without these specific circumstances, he would’ve stayed dead in this story.

Can you explain your reasoning why you are rolling your eyes to this scenarion. Nothing suggests its not a logical path the writers will take for g5’s narrative? If you have a better idea, don’t be a coward and just type it so I can see.

I still don’t believe this is real. But if it is, the story potential would be amazing.
