Honestly, part of me is a bit surprised that Hasbro was able to get away with the inclusion of Treehugger in MLP:FiM. After all, she really is the closest thing the show had to a pony that was also a drug addict. Not only that, but the term ‘Treehugger’ in and of itself is frequently used as a derogatory reference to environmentalists. So definitely a more controversial inclusion in FiM for sure (especially with FiM being a kids show), and that alone would explain her lasting popularity, especially among the older brony community.
