I’m definitely liking this new gen in this style, with the bedsheets leaked and showing them for the first time ngl I wasn’t too keen on it, but I think they definitely look better in 3d here.

Holy crap, the resolution here is insane! You can see the way the hoof wall on their hooves has grown. Wild!

Fun fact, this is the highest resolution image we’ve gotten of G5 yet.

Loving the background - I kinda wanna redraw it myself!

Either mediterranean as #DFD3 said, or a mixture of Victorian and Colonial.

The inspiration behind the city’s character and location is undoubtedly taken from the Mediterranean region, considering that there are many picturesque cities there either on or by cliffs facing the seas. When it comes to the architecture of individual buildings, we have only a single picture as far as shown a Venetian-like stone bridge erected over a walkway and pastel-colored facades of brick buildings. However, there are many indications that Spanish colonial styles may have been used, as seen in Puerto Rico, Caribbean, although Colonial is widespread in hot areas as a popular choice for wealthy homeowners, including in the Mediterranean region. This means that the city is not many centuries old, but perhaps there is an old city that is not visible in the scenery, behind Izzy. Something reminiscent of a castle or palace perched on top of a cliff can be seen behind Zipp.

When I think about it, there was surprisingly little old-fashioned architecture in the G4 world, sometimes it seems like whole cities are being demolished and rebuilt - even though everything suggests that the modern Equestria is between 1,500 and 1,100 years old, and the west coast towards the Celestia Sea was populated long before that, including by “Viking” ponies who mapped the oceans along the west coast of the continent (what is the name of it? We have two known continents from the official map). And since Southern Equestria was Anugypt and Mesoponytamia in the past, it meant that there were ponies in today’s Equestria (I think slightly larger than the United States and Mexico combined in a realistic Equus) up to 4,000 years back in history. Central Equestria with the Canterlot region was possibly just a wild landscape that only became accessible to emigrating ponies during the great frost perhaps 1,500 years ago.

Even for the ponies accustomed to a relaxing life with little pace, it is not a little suspicious as a dwelling changes character and purpose for each generation, which sooner or later had to be demolished and rebuilt in a new architectural style. The ponies do not live longer than humans, and they are no less solution-oriented in the face of problems and improvement of existing concepts. Ponyville was at least timeless as this town was inspired by Central European urban architecture that is at least 500 years old or more, and we know it has existed for three hundred years. The story of Granny Smith and the founding of Ponyville is controversial, for Ponyville is definitely not just fifty or sixty years old.

Hope the G5 creators will reflect this in their work.

Maretime Bay is a really nice-looking town. I think I’ll like watching it in the movie and the series!

The inspiration may have come from the European country Italy, especially Campania or Liguria. Along the amalfi coast are several port cities on steep cliffs or down very steep hillsides towards the beaches, contemporary buildings are built in brick and stone. But the cliffs are as taken from the Dover cliffs in England or Møns Klint in Denmark. White cliffs usually consist of chalk that is too soft to carry heavy buildings, much less a city. The color of the cliffs should be more typical of bedrock.

What may have inspired the idea behind Maretime Bay is probably the Italian city of Manarola in the Cinque Terre, Liguria. In that case, the culture around the buildings and other things that have been erected there are taken from Italy / France. A typical “Mediterranean town” although it is not possible to see if there are port facilities there. And it is needed; after all, ponies must have food sources in the oceans regardless of whether it is fish or plant life underwater, and not least to be able to export to other cities or countries to have a viable economy. It is not cheap to build in brick / stone.

Hard to say if Maretime Bay is towards the Luna Ocean in east or the Celestia sea in west.
