Today’s a magical spring when it’s all about everypony’s starry, equal Unicorn Student, former guidance counselor and Headmare of the School of Friendship. Beautiful, charming, intelligent, preeminent in magic, empathetic, understanding and a true friend, Starlight Glimmer is one of my most favorite ponies, right next to Sunset Shimmer and Twilight Sparkle. She has even become one of the most important ponies throughout the show.
 
The story of Starlight Glimmer is one of transformation. A long time ago, her best friend, Sunburst, got his cutie mark before she did, and left her. :( (Sad) Feeling betrayed and abandoned, the bitter Starlight became convinced that cutie marks cause disharmony and that everyone having different degrees of ability makes ponies unable to be proper friends. So, she founded a small village on the outskirts of Equestria where not cutie marks were frowned upon, as well as forbidden, but she and the villagers had the same marks: a boring equal sign. The town’s ideology would also match her belief that nopony is more special than anypony else, and that everypony is equal. She was, from a political standpoint, an egalitarian extremist. However, after the Mane 6 arrived, they exposed her as a fraud.
 
Wanting revenge, the troubled Unicorn used Star Swirl’s time travel spell to change history in order to destroy the bond of the six friends, unaware of the horrible consequences her meddling left behind. Twilight Sparkle, who she and Spike were sucked back in time, learned how important their friendship of the Mane 6 was to peace in Equestria. Twilight showed her this, and after Starlight told her of her tragic history, Twilight offered her hoof in friendship and taught her the importance of uniqueness and individual talents. Starlight finally accepted friendship, and then, Twilight took on the reformed Unicorn as her student to learn the Magic of Friendship. Since then, Starlight has done so much: she reconnected with Sunburst; befriended Trixie and Maud; brought Sunburst to restore the Crystal Heart after it was shattered by the newly-born Princess Flurry Heart; defeated Queen Chrysalis and reformed the Changelings; helped the Mane 6 and the Pillars of Olde Equestria free Stygian from his own hate; rescued the Equestria Girls from Juniper Montage; became the guidance counselor for Twilight’s new School of Friendship; restored Twilight’s confidence after Chancellor Neighsay shutdown her school; and continued to offer help to her students (even to an excessive point once). And despite her own shortcomings and magical mishaps, she has really come a long way. Nod
 
Then, when Princess Celestia and Princess Luna announced their retirement and chose Twilight Sparkle and her friends to rule in their stead, Twilight gave Starlight the position of Headmare of the School of Friendship to her. She knew she would be the best pony for the job. Starlight, of course, couldn’t handle the job on her own, so she hired Sunburst as the vice principal, and Trixie as the new guidance counselor. Before Starlight would take the job, however, Equestria’s remaining villains attacked the principality. Starlight and the vindictive Chrysalis had a battle as nearly as epic as the battle between Twilight and Tirek, but Chrysalis’ new magic defeated Starlight. After the Mane Six (sans Twilight), the princesses, the Pillars of Equestria, Discord and Starlight were captured, Discord managed to help her and the others escape. While the Mane Six went in search for Twilight Sparkle, Starlight and the others stayed behind to fend off the villains. At the end of the day, the Mane Six and all their friends defeated the villains and restored Equestria. On Twilight’s coronation, Starlight gave her a memory book, filled with memories of Twilight’s adventures since the start of the series. Starlight Glimmer continues to run the School of Friendship, spreading the magic of friendship to all creatures, for many moons to come.
 
At first, I didn’t like Starlight. Her controlling personality and unnatural method of establishing equality made me think of her as sort of a mix between Dolores Umbridge from Harry Potter and Amon from The Legend of Korra. Of course, after she revealed her sad history, I felt horrible for her and I even imagined being there and offering my friendship to her as I watched that scene. Crying Huggle! Despite my discomfort of her becoming a new character, after watching the first half of season six, I came to welcome her, and it even inspired me to create my popular Mane 8 pic. Nod Heart And just like with Twilight and Sunset, Starlight would become one of my most favorite ponies. Not to mention I was smitten by her new hairstyle since it not only truly represents her, but it makes her look so beautiful. Love Love Love Kelly Sheridan was the perfect voice actress for the role. Heart Heart Heart She has especially come to be very relatable. I can’t explain every detail but I will say this, like her I can be impatient, be hesitant over a matter due to either overthinking or missing the point in something, be temperamental, and usually make the same mistakes and neglect to learn from them constantly. Sweating a little…
 
Throughout the the series, Starlight has become one of the best characters to love in the show. Heart But that wasn’t always the case. Just as there were Bronies who came to embrace her, there were, and still are, who express profound hatred of her. :( (Sad) They would say that she has a weak backstory when even her very best friend abandoned her once; she is treated as a Mary Sue while always making mistakes now and again, even though some of us have probably done worst and never learned at all, and they didn’t want her to be the new Twilight Sparkle. Starlight may not be perfect, but neither are we. It’s okay to mess up even a couple of times. Besides I forgive her for her constant mistakes, and she did come to learn that magic isn’t the answer to everything. No matter what people think of her, as one of the most hated or loved character in MLP:FiM, Starlight Glimmer will always be one of the most beautiful stars in my sky. Love Heart I will always love and support her as her friend. She deserved a second chance, and me and all Bronies and Pegasisters who agree will always let her know that along with her very best friends. Heart And she will definitely the best headmare ever! :D (Big Grin)
 
 
Well to be honest, I didn’t think I was going to make anything this year. But then, an idea clicked, and I decided to take the risk. So here we got Starlight Glimmer flying through the air like a shooting star. I thought that since she is so preeminent in magic, and her name has star in it, why not like a shooting star, hmm? ;) (Wink) Finding references for the billowing mane and tail were slighty difficult, but the pose was a little trickier to find. Good thing videos of MLP:FIM on YouTube make it easier for me to find the right pose (not easy actually, more convinent and occasionally propitious). The real struggle, however, was the background. I struggled coming up with an idea, but then after a little improvisation with one of my textures and a starry night background I found, it seems to fit. I gave her a little glow to reflect her magical abilites. And also, I gave Starly her human eyelashes. :D (Big Grin) I couldn’t help it! But I’m sure some of you wouldn’t mind at all. I feel like Starlight should’ve had them from the start (or maybe since the start of season 6).
 
I sort of love how this turned out, though I feel like it’s not totally the best I could make (I feel like my artistic talent isn’t even above average). But I hope you love this. But more importantly, I also hope that many of you still love or finally come to love Starlight Glimmer throughout the series, for how she turned out as a character and how she played a huge contribution for Equestria and beyond. She deserves it. As for me, I will always love her. She is one of the best reformed characters. Love Heart Thank you, Starlight Glimmer.
