Bear in mind, she also wrote “The Great Snail Race” which is one of the most hated SpongeBob episodes of it’s original 3-season run.

How can the person who wrote the absolute worst episode of Ponies write one of the best episodes of Spongebob?!  
Probably because Spongebob doesn’t have a moral. After all, that’s where MMDW fails the hardest.

Spongebob Squarepants = silly 1990’s cartoon, similiar to Fairly Odd Parents, Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy (which is actually the same cartoon as Evil con Carne), Ren & Stimpy, or Cow and Chicken.
 
MLP:FiM = actual cartoon with a plot, and the characters learn lessons. IMDb likens it to “Bob’s Burgers” but that just looks like a second version of the Simpsons but not yellow-skinned, and Italian.

The hate TMMDW gets comes from the impresion that the others were being malicious, wich was accidental, a result of the episode focusing a lot in the action scennes. Any other criticism is not exclusive of this episode at all, and it’s brought up by people trying to pass their biased hate as genuine criticism.  
It’s unfair to say that it was Merriwether William’s fault, there is quite a lot more in the making of an episode than the writter, like the direction.

Merriwether has written some crap MLP episodes. She’s also written some decent episodes. Same deal with Polsky. He’s got some good episodes, and he’s got some bad ones.
 
Neither of these two writers deserve the hate they get from this crowd.
 
Even the belief-worthy M.A. Larson wrote an episode or two I didn’t like. So did Amy.
 
There hasn’t been an episode yet that didn’t have at least some redeeming quality. Granted, the only thing saving “Spike At Your Service” was the timberwolf.
