There’s a difference between humour and insulting the audience’s intelligence.

I was okay with them ending up in Equestria by accident. I liked them tying in the movie. My problem was that the amount of time they spent in Equestria was so minor, especially after the commercials made it look otherwise.

It seems like the problem is not so much that the writers got stupid. It’s that they lost sense of the cohesive story. Since Faust left the project after season 1, there has been no one to lay down an overarching narrative.

The writers just do what they think seems good for an individual episode. And to be fair, the fans got what they asked for. While a small minority asked earlier on for a good, driving narrative, the majority wanted the show to focus on slice of life stories, which are inherently self-contained.

Me before watching Spring Breakdown: Oh boy! A fun cruise ship vacation special! How fun! <3

Me after watching Spring Breakdown: …THAT WAS THE MOST STUPID, MOST HORRIBLE PIECE OF SH*T I’VE EVER SEEN!!!
