Because COVID. Same reason Animal Crossing blew up in popularity. AC is an open-world game with interaction with other players , each with little worlds they’e created, providing a virtual simulatio of the social interactions not possible because of COVID. Similarly, Among Us is a social deduction game revolving around groups, and the concept of impostors and crewmates reflects the social groups of real life - and the ongoing culture wars too, in a certain perspective.
