At the end of the day, it’s all preference and head/fancanons. I mean, how many popular ships are there that goes against the canon?
Devil advocate here, yes, Lyra and Bon Bon’s initial shipping may have been fan obsession. But it DID become canon. And while, it could be that they (Vinyl and Tavi) are to some more like Siblings (I have seen this done in fanfics) I personally just cannot see this being the same in canon. Now as to this comic. Heh it would be amusing if after all is said an done fancy preferred her usual fun loving self.
Lyra and Sweetie Drops was only a thing because of the fandom’s obsession. And as people have pointed out, Vinyl and Octavia’s house is laid out more like siblings than lovers.
Ipersonally find it very unlikely Vinyl and Tavi are not a couple, given how many other characters were subtlety shipped such as Lyra and Bon Bon.
I blame the fandom being clingy to old memes.
