It’s science fiction. As in, not real. That’s what he drew in response to the comment thread here:

In the Mechwarrior universe, a DropShip can mass over 100,000 tons. In-universe, the engines to land something that big would be loud. They don’t have antigravity, but they do have nuclear fusion drives. Now think about what it takes to launch a Saturn V or space shuttle, and then scale that up. The engines have to be powerful enough to land something that weighs as much or more than a fully loaded Nimitz-class aircraft carrier, and land it gently enough not to damage or destroy either it or the cargo it’s carrying.
So yeah, “thunder” is an appropriate description.
Edited
nothing has a rocket for landing that big.
and if anything did, the ground wouldn’t shake at all if they did.
Think “landing” instead of “falling.
Things that are landing will have rockets pointing downward to slow their descent, because if they weren’t, they’d be crashing.
if they had flares/rockets that bright, they’d be going up..
falling things don’t have the flares burning in front, they’re behind…
Since I like things you make, I shall watch you. Consider yourself watched, friendo.
