Well, they’ve both had similar controversial dramas in the fandom.

Okay, this is beautiful. An entire comment thread gets formed in the span of a single hour. Never thought this post would get such a thread, tbh. Then again, I never thought anyone would bring up EqG for a post referring to Pony Life.
Yeah, as I said the EqG series focused too much on Sunset or Twilight, in my opinion.

Honestly when we did find out what the cancelled season 2 finally was I was just like oh another sunset special

I always liked it but I did feel it was just existing after forgotten friendship. Sure there was plenty of stuff it could have done but not really stuff left that it needed to do.

Yeah, but it still never really had an ongoing episodic series like MLP did. Specials and shorts are usually testing grounds for that.
The Simpsons started off as animated shorts, and a Christmas holiday special.
Technically it did get a series but it was based on Specials and shorts.
Low toy sales does sound pretty likely considering they didn’t even let it finish season 2
I still remember when Equestria Girls was supposed to have a series, but I guess it was too niche’, and didn’t sell enough toys to fund it.

This is true. I think the fact that the Marestream, for instance, was first revealed in Tell your Tale instead of Make your Mark really shows how essential that series is to the rest of the G5 storyline. I would argue it is almost as essential as Make your Mark itself.
I will say pony life had the better idea of being separate to fim. And won’t tell your tale might not necessarily be Canon to make your mark The short still reference to make your mark episodes. Some people have even argued to me that you need to watch tell your tale to understand make your mark
The fact that Pony Life was mostly improvised does make sense, given that Pony Life was meant as a stopgap and as such was likely developed on as cheap of a budget as possible, likely below even Tell your Tale. And, for what it was, it was pretty enjoyable. Not as good as FiM, obviously, but I don’t think anyone expected it to be. It did do its job filling in the gap between G4 and G5, though.
I heard it was a very quick job and most of it was improvised by the voice actor.
Which is probably why season 2 felt different to one.
I remember to looked like potion nova was Going to be important but disappeared for season 2.
Also unless you’re getting Tell your tale confused for the actual G5 It’s not really comparable
Unpopular opinion, but I think I enjoyed Pony Life more then G5.
It could potentially be if G5 in general (including the series) ends up a complete flop. But considering the amount of positive reactions I see to G5’s advertising so far, I doubt Pony Life would make a return.

Well he was right about season 2, we’ll see if his prediction for season 3 and 4 will be true too.

I want PL to continue at least until they add Derpy.
Would be challenging to do it without any fandom drama. But if the G5 series (whether tied in to the 2021 movie or not) ends up being just as good as or (in the eyes of the grumpy fans) better than G4, that would be easy.
Yep. It would benefit everybody!
I honestly wouldn’t mind it either, as it’d be nice to have a side lighter/comical series, alongside the new G5 one.
